Fretboard workflow

How to use the Guitar Scale Generator

Select a root note and scale type, then read the highlighted notes across the fretboard. Start in one position before connecting the same notes horizontally along the neck.

Minor pentatonic example

Choose A as the root and Minor Pentatonic as the scale. The notes are A, C, D, E and G. Play one small shape slowly, say each interval and finish phrases on A so the tonal centre remains clear.

Turn a diagram into practice

Pick three or four notes from the displayed pattern, loop them with a steady rhythm and move the idea to a neighbouring position. The diagram becomes useful when the notes are connected to sound and timing.

Study the fretboard scale guide and minor pentatonic positions. Then choose a matching key in the Backing Track Generator and write your best phrase in the TAB Creator.

Can I use this for improvisation?

Yes. Set the key of the song or backing track and use the shown notes as your guide. Aim for chord tones when the chords change.
